Simmer’s Morning Skate: Murray Signs, Wilson Reformation(?), Trash Talking Goalie

More on the Vancouver Canucks momentarily, but first, some interesting news and “fun” from around the NHL.

Let’s skate …

From Team Canada world junior training camp: Detroit Red Wings goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa (2021, 15th overall) is a world-class trash talker. The Fort McMurray, Alberta native and Edmonton Oil Kings stalwart is already getting on Team Canada’s nerves for chirping in practice.

After Pittsburgh Penguins GM Ron Hextall poached a few of the Philadelphia Flyers scouting and development staff, the Flyers have made big changes to their staff.

Like analytics? Like Tom Wilson‘s style of play? Many do, outside of the over-the-line suspension-worthy garbage. Reformation for the 27-year-old Capitals winger could be on tap says writer Sammi Silber. Tom Wilson could have a much different impact next season.

And former No. 2 overall pick Ryan Murray (Columbus, 20120) signed a discount deal with the Colorado Avalanche. The former prospect who played just down the highway in Everett, Washington for four WHL seasons, is attempting to overcome inconsistent play and some back problems. The left-shot D-man signed a one-year deal on Monday worth $2-million. The 27-year-old made $4.6-million per season the last two years in Columbus.
