-Outside of the ongoing Evander Kane marital-garbage-slings, she said-he said, gambling accusations and investigation, there was heartwarming news out of San Jose as well, as Sharks Assistant Coach John Madden reflected on the late goalie Matiss Kivlenieks, who died at age-24 in a fireworks malfunction this summer. (Trade talk also on the site.) Madden was his head coach in Cleveland of the AHL. Kivlenieks has also been honoured by his organization, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and yesterday by his former teammate Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Ron Hextall hated the Pittsburgh Penguins as a player, a GM, and an executive with the Philadelphia Flyers. Now he’s running the chilly bird’s organization. That’s not sitting well with some in western Pennsylvania, who are now going as far as to accuse Hextall of sabotage as his club mostly stands pat. Pittsburgh Hockey Now says ‘pending a trade, the Penguins off-season is in a holding pattern‘.

-Will Canucks fans ever tire of seeing the Bruins having issues; any kind of issues? You think Vancouver and Philly are tough on goalies? The ongoing dislike and criticism of Tuukka Rask over the years is remarkable.
