The Vancouver Canucks signed defenceman Olli Juolevi Monday to a one-year deal worth $750,000. Much more on that shortly but first …

Let’s Skate …

The Evander Kane “scandal” lingers for the San Jose Sharks forward and for the National Hockey League as that entity investigates gambling accusations by Kane’s estranged wife. Is this all just bad-relationship based – relying on Kane’s reputation as a wagerer as a starting point. That’s one theory. Writer Adam Proteau updates the scene.

A quick hitter from TSN’s Mike Johnson on Jon Cooper coaching the Canadian Olympic Team, that is if the NHL goes … TBD on that. He also includes a fantasy line scenario involving Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon.

The Philadelphia Flyers re-signed their young netminder Carter Hart yesterday to a contract that was one of the highest AAV’s (average annual salary) ever for a goalie’s second contract. He was quickly overshadowed however, by Igor Shesterkin’s four-year, $22.666 million ($5.65 million AAV) deal with the New York Rangers. Shesterkin is limited in overall NHL game action while Hart last season was limited in his success. That’s was a scary development in Philly where goaltenders have provided fans trauma for decades.
