Bring back Penticton!? Well, very likely next year, as we examined here three weeks ago, but for now the Vancouver Canucks will do without their annual rookie tournament. That is not the case in the Sunshine State however, where the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes have announced their dates for a little rookie get together in September. Just one of our NHL stories as we go for a spin.

Let’s Skate …

This just in: First overall pick Owen Power is headed back to the University of Michigan, according to the Buffalo News.

Remember Nolan Patrick, the 2nd-overall pick in the 2017 draft who’s been plagued by injuries and is looking to revive his career. After a double whammy, involving two trades in one day back in mid-July, it appears Patrick will get his next opportunity with the Vegas Golden Knights. What to expect as the clock begins ticking.

The Pittsburgh Penguins seemingly took the first step toward negotiations with core players Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Bryan Rust when they hired a new Director of Hockey Operations on Tuesday. As Dan Kingerski points out, the Penguins new exec’ has three big expiring contracts staring him in the face.

Who or what is a Pasquale Zito? Bob Duff explains in Detroit Hockey Now. Will it be another NHL rags to riches story?

While we await the start of Vancouver Canucks training camp, enjoy the European hockey action!!
