Canucks Skate: Team Gains Ground, Boyle’s Baby, What Goals!

Vancouver Canucks practice
The Vancouver Canucks work on line rushes at Rogers Arena on Tuesday, January 4th.

They did it again. Not gonna lie to ya, this is kind of intriguing, updating standings while a team doesn’t play hockey. OK, it would be waaaay more fun if the Vancouver Canucks were actually playing, but they’ll take it. Check the NHL’s Pacific Division standings and you’ll see that the Canucks are now tied with the San Jose Sharks in 6th place with the same number of games played after the Sharks lost to the Detroit Red Wings last night.

The Calgary Flames also lost a game in-hand as did the Vegas Golden Knights. The Anaheim Ducks were winners. The Vancouver Canucks have two games in-hand on the latter two.

It’s a day off from practice for the Vancouver Canucks Wednesday and they’re not scheduled to play a game until Saturday’s home match against the Ottawa Senators. Until then …

Let’s Skate! …

Western Conference (Double) Wowsy!!

Speaking of the Ducks. Holy moly Troy Terry, with his first career hat trick Tuesday night. I tweeted his second goal last night and I think you should watch it.

Like I said, the Ducks should provide the Vancouver Canucks a challenging match-up in the Pacific Division for years to come with that talented, young roster. Both franchises should be good. As it stands now, the Duckies have an eight-point lead on the Canucks but with two extra games played. They’re in second place.

Oh, and you should also watch Cale Makar’s OT winner for the Colorado Avalanche over the Chicago Blackhawks. Magic!

Remembering the Habs

Montreal Hockey Now manages to chirp the Vancouver Canucks right off the bat in its recap of an eventful 2021 in the land of the Montreal Canadiens. While the Canucks had their worst calendar year in history, the Habs probably saw the greatest extremes. What a year of highs and lows in ‘La belle province’.

Race to Baby Birth

Hockey playing dads are like any other, they go through the same stuff we do when raising a family and that includes trying to be on hand when babies are born.

I recall taking a ten-hour minor league baseball bus ride to Southern Oregon only to find out upon arrival that my son was about to be born. An hour later I was flying back the other direction to cut the cord.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now tells us that Penguins centre Brian Boyle went through similar craziness just a couple of days ago. It was a scramble but he made it.

Flame Out

Gotta love this quote from Calgary Flames Head Coach Darryl Sutter after the loss Tuesday night in Florida.

“Well, there’s not a post-season if you play like you did tonight.”

Calgary Hockey Now breaks down the battle between the team with the NHL’s best road record and the team with the NHL’s best home record. Home cooking prevailed.

Enjoy the Hockey Action !!
