Vancouver Canucks 6, New Jersey Devils 3

The Vancouver Canucks snapped a 12-game head-to-head losing streak to the Devils.

Entering …

Elias Pettersson missed his second consecutive game with an upper body injury.

— After 136 NHL games between the Jets and Maple Leafs, Canucks centre and Delta native Nic Petan dressed for the first time for his hometown Canucks. Petan has tallied 44 points in 37 AHL games this season for the Abbotsford Canucks.

JT Miller came in with a 12-game point streak and it quickly turned to 13 games with an assist on Vancouver’s opening goal.

Daws vs. Demko

The Devils have gone through six goalies this season due to injury which has opened the door of opportunity for 21-year-old German Nico Daws, making his eighth consecutive start for New Jersey but just the 13th of his NHL career.

Brad Hunt fooled him by firing a puck on the rush from the left wing circle along the ice that he shoulda, coulda, woulda had, and Daws would definitely want the first Horvat goal back. He was pulled by Devils head coach Lindy Ruff after the Canucks 4th goal. Ruff talked about the kid to VHN Tuesday morning.

Demko made the saves he had to make. He caught a couple breaks along the way with crazy bounces narrowly missing his partially empty net, but for the most part he had another very steady night. A good sign lately for the Canucks is that Demko hasn’t had to stand-on-his-head each and every night for the club to win hockey games.

Shots on goal for the game finished 35-31 in favour of the Devils.

Petan’s Night

In what turned into a track meet at times, the Canucks 4th-line didn’t see a lot of ice time in this game. Their opportunity increased late in the game with a lopsided score in favour of the Canucks. Nic Petan ended up with 8:18 in ice time, a minus-1 and one-for-five in the face-off circle in his Vancouver debut.

Simmer’s Canucks 3 Stars:

3) Quinn Hughes – Logged 21:58 in ice time and finally beat his brother. Plus-3 with an assist.

2) JT Miller – Ho Hum, just another three point night and a 13-game point streak with three assists.

1) Bo Horvat – Two goals, both breaking in alone on the rush. First one he powered through Daws, the 2nd, post/shelfie on Gillies. Added an assist.
