Canucks NHL Daily: Trades Made and Rumours of More, Russian Stays Home?

No news on the trade or free agency front from the Vancouver Canucks as we start the week because without the first part of that equation they can’t really do anything about the latter. Salary cap constraints ultimately prevent the Canucks from doing anything significant at the moment, although team management had previously expressed an interest in exploring the passive free agent market, as in, no one too expensive, too early.

Trade rumours related to Vancouver Canucks centre JT Miller have cooled a bit lately, but the overall market remains active as does the chatter, especially with our friends in la Belle Province.

Habs Active

Winnipeg Jets centre and Quebec native Pierre-Luc Dubois still appears to have an interest in joining the Montreal Canadiens.

As Montreal Hockey Now’s Marco D’Amico points out, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes killed two birds with one stone in the Jeff Petry trade.

From his days as a player agent, Hughes knows defenceman and trade acquisition Mike Matheson very well and he has no doubts that the West Island native will fit in both on and off the ice.

More Crying in Calgary?

Have the Calgary Flames learned their lesson from the Johnny Gaudreau experience and will they apply it in contract talks with Matthew Tkachuk?

Along That Other Ocean

Negotiations are apparently not going well between the Boston Bruins and Czech winger David Pastrnak. An NHL source tells our boys in Boston, “This is going to drag on.” Boston Bruins coverage.

The Washington Capitals snagged talented right-shot left wing Ivan Miroshnichenko in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft at 20th overall. For some players and teams there are concerns with the war, military service and Mother Russia putting the boot on 18-year-olds to keep them at home. Here’s what the year ahead looks like for Miroshnichenko — Washington Capitals news.

Also — the Capitals may be looking to move a forward and save money to create some salary cap space. Lars Eller’s name keeps popping up. Capitals trade talk.

The NHL trade rumour mill has had the New York Islanders associated with the Colorado Avalanche’s Sam Girard. New York Islanders trade chatter.

The Florida Panthers snagged Michael del Zotto and Chris Tierney on bargain contracts. Florida Panthers signings.

The sad story of another drug death in our hockey media world.

Have an excellent Monday and a terrific week.
