Canucks Daily: Date of a Vancouver Trade? Big Free Agent Destination

Vancouver Canucks, Tanner Pearson
Do the Vancouver Canucks trade someone like Tanner Pearson by August 22nd?

You’ve heard of over-under bets, how about a before-after bet on when the Vancouver Canucks pull the trigger on a trade. It doesn’t have to be JT Miller, it could be anyone. Do you think anything happens before August 15th? Let’s put the before-after date as August 22nd. Yay or nay, do they get a cap clearing manoeuvre done by then? Shoot us your thoughts in the comment section here or hit me up on twitter @simmerpuck.

We’ve talked about various scenarios for the Vancouver Canucks, moving Tanner Pearson, moving Miller, or tossing in a depth goalie. Do a little crystal-balling for us.

In the meantime, let’s go for an NHL skate …

Arbitration Dates

This is day one for the NHL arbitration hearings window for restricted free agents (RFA’s), running through August 11th. The Vancouver Canucks do not have a player involved.

Yakov Trenin of the Nashville Predators is the lone hearing scheduled for Tuesday. Of the 24 players originally headed to hearings, ten have avoided them by signing contracts. That number will likely go up by the 11th. Unsigned notables include Jesper Bratt of the New Jersey Devils who has a hearing on Wednesday and Kailer Yamamoto of the Edmonton Oilers whose hearing is set for August 7th.

Without slicing up the technicalities, the teams argue for what they think a player should be paid, the player’s representative(s) argues for what the player should make and the arbitrator then decides what the player will actually make for a maximum of two seasons, depending on what time frame was proposed.

Metro Mania

As Pittsburgh Hockey Now points out, the Metro Division is never short on drama. While four teams from that group, including the Pittsburgh Penguins, made the Eastern Conference playoffs last season, things have been shaken up substantially.

Meanwhile, the New York Islanders, who fell well short of the postseason in 2022, are also mixing things up again under general manager Lou Lamoriello, and it’s believed the club is trying to create salary cap space to sign free agent centre Nazem Kadri.

Good Morning, and have an excellent week folks!
