Canucks Daily: Other Canadian NHL Markets Busy, Ovie Working for Gamblers?

Published

on

Vancouver Canucks foe, Nazem Kadri
The Vancouver Canucks will see centre Nazem Kadri as a member of the Calgary Flames on December 14th.

One month from now the Vancouver Canucks will be smack dab in the middle of training camp in Whistler. A week prior to that starting on the 16th of September, the club’s young un’s will participate in the Young Stars Classic in Penticton against the Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames.

The Vancouver Canucks preseason schedule begins October 1st at the Seattle Kraken.

Just a little reminder as the clocky goes ticky tocky and the club launches its marketing campaign for season ticket packages.

Meanwhile, Vancouver’s off-ice managerial moves have been non-existent for the past three weeks. Is the roster set for now? Apparently. Canucks Head Coach Bruce Boudreau arrives this week and we should start to see informal “captain’s skates” with players not long after. Those won’t involve the coach.

No shortage of off-ice ‘skating’ outside of Vancouver …

Lou’s World

Holy moly, it seemed like Lou Lamoriello’s dealings as GM of the New York Islanders might have an impact on the NHL trade and free agent market in general this summer, but as it turns out, not so much. For one, no Nazem Kadri on Long Island. Lou seems to have missed on everyone, except snagging Alexander Romanov from Montreal. Via Sportsnet, Lamoriello claims he’s not disappointed by the offseason.

The Islanders did sign their RFAs, and also inked Red Wings draft cast-off Dennis Cholowski. Is he the Islanders sixth defenseman? Stefen Rosner went fishing for some analysis of Cholowski and the findings weren’t entirely pretty as the D-man joins his 4th NHL organization. New York Islanders.

Here’s an interesting and weird story by Sammi Silber with Washington Hockey Now. Alex Ovechkin worked as a call centre employee for a day for a betting site. He shmoozed people who registered but didn’t make a deposit. What say the Washington Capitals.

ESPN: On Paul Stastny signing with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Canada Hockey Now

Montreal Hockey Now: Jimmy Murphy wrote multiple sides to a story on Tuesday. The Canadiens are shopping a few players on the NHL trade market, and sources disagreed on the price tag, especially for Christian Dvorak. Montreal Canadiens.

What will Kirby Dach’s next contract look like? More Montreal Canadiens.

Calgary Hockey Now: What a roller coaster ride for Flames GM Brad Treliving this summer, but is he STILL working the phones and the NHL trade market? If so, what’s he looking for? Calgary Flames.

TSN proves with some analytics wrapped in the obvious that you don’t need a first-round goalie to win. There are plenty of mid-round goalies playing big minutes.

Have a great hump day!
