Really?! A PK Subban PTO, How About the Canucks

Vancouver Canucks foe, PK Subban
Should the Vancouver Canucks have an interest in PK Subban at the right price?

What about the Canucks? Below here, we’ll see a little story regarding the feasibility of a PK Subban pro try-out (PTO) with the Boston Bruins. Really?! Wow, from $9-million per season with the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators and New Jersey Devils over an eight-year span, to PTO’ing it?

I don’t think it’ll come to that, it makes more sense that someone will snap him up at a price tag somewhere between his old salary number and the bottom of the scale.

But if it’s within the realm of possibility for the 33-year-old, why wouldn’t the Vancouver Canucks be all over the free agent? Could they handle everything that comes with him, with what amounts to the “PK Subban show”.

He has mellowed a bit I believe, but his website kind of says it all:

“P.K. Subban is one of the most dynamic athletes and personalities in sports. Known not only as an all-star NHL defenseman for the New Jersey Devils, he is also a philanthropist, entrepreneur, executive producer and fashion enthusiast.”

Hell, for the right price, the Canucks could use a right-shot D-man who could pump home a half dozen goals and tally twenty or so points, and that’s in his recent down seasons. He might be even more productive if he’s in an environment that makes him happy with a decent team. Not thinking New Jersey was the place, as that’s where his numbers really slipped especially while playing for a team in rebuild mode.

Some NHL contender or near-contender might be getting an aging, yet still very capable defenceman on the cheap.

Boston Hockey Now wrote this week that the Boston Bruins could be, or should be, looking at a tryout contract for Subban or Keith Yandle.

Because of salary cap considerations, the Canucks would have to move someone out for future considerations or a low pick to make it happen, but for sure an interesting concept to ponder. It only happens if the discount becomes very real and the club decides it can handle ‘the show.’
