If you have some free time this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and want to take a little drive, the Canucks training camp sessions are open to the public at the Meadow Park Sports Centre outside of Whistler. The goalies are scheduled to begin their work-outs each day at approximately 9:45 with practices and scrimmages running through 2:15 pm, when the goalies have the option of utilizing the ice again.

Media day unfolds this morning with multiple players and Canucks Head Coach Bruce Boudreau taking the plunge. While we await those festivities, let’s go for an NHL twirl …

Big Payday!

Colorado Hockey Now: The Colorado Avalanche PAID Nathan MacKinnon like no one else.

NY Post: NHL trade rumours ahead โ€” The Rangers traded Nils Lundkvist and now have two first-round picks, one being conditional. With two first-rounders, Larry Brooks suggests that it opens the door for the Rangers to go after Patrick Kane.

More on Retirements

Montreal Hockey Now: One of three big-name retirements on Tuesday, P.K. Subban had interest from clubs but nothing lucrative and perhaps nothing beyond a PTO. Our boys in Montreal honoured Subban with his best moments with the Montreal Canadiens.

Despite the club’s failed season, Zdeno Chara went out in style last season with the New York Islanders.

Florida Hockey Now: His ironman streak ended late last season and former Florida Panthers defenceman Keith Yandle also retired.

Waiting out Covid

Some injury and health news. Philly Hockey Now: Without Sean Couturier, what will the Philly Flyers lineup look like?

Washington Hockey Now: Top centre prospect Hendrix Lapierre has slick hands and mobility and the door is open because of Nick Backstromโ€™s injury. In the offseason, Lapierre gained 10 pounds and is hoping to stick with the Washington Capitals.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Covid vaccination requirements could loosen up for the few NHL players who didnโ€™t get the poke and allow them to travel to Canada, including Tyler Bertuzzi of the Detroit Red Wings.

Happy Hump Day!
