Gotta See It: Canucks fans sing to Boudreau, ‘Bruce, there it is!’
Candian hockey fans are a clever breed, especially when it comes to chants. Sure, sports fans across the globe can boo, hiss, cheer and chant a player’s name, but Canadian fans know how to add a clever twist. And they hilariously did so on Monday night after the Vancouver Canucks shed weeks of turmoil by firing coach Travis Green and GM Jim Benning.
New coach Bruce Boudreau had a successful debut and earned some love in the process. The Canucks beat the division rival LA Kings and looked like a new team. The soft team that our Pittsburgh colleagues called “cupcakes” on Saturday was no more. The new team was hungry, energetic, and a winner.
On Monday, Vancouver Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini and interim GM Stan Smyl met the media to discuss the changes.ย
The Canucks beat LA 4-0, and the fans showed their approval for Boudreau with a serenade in the final minutes. You’ll have to listen to the background of the Sportsnet broadcast as they describe Jason Dickinson feeling the ill effects of blocking a shot with his hand (ouch, don’t do that).
You can hear the crowd sing, “Bruce, there it is” to the tune of “Whoomp, there it is.”
And we can’t stop laughing. Bruce Boudreau certainly made a good first impression. Well done Canucks fans.
